BLAZERS FALL IN HIGH SCORING AFFAIR 7-5
3-Feb-12The Kamloops Blazers didn't score enough goals as they lost 7-5 in Vancouver. The Giants scored in the first minute of the game with a point shot hitting a Giants skate and deflecting in for a 1-0 lead. The game was 2-0 as goaltender Cole Cheveldave was pushed in front of the goal and the puck slid by him. The Giants then jumped out to a 3-0 lead with Nathan Burns scoring on an errant shot off the back boards and they looked well on their way to victory. The Blazers mounted a comeback in the second half of the period, and mustered a shorthanded goal as Dylan Willick beat goaltender Adam Morrison for a 3-1 Giants lead after the first period.
The Blazers continued their push back in the second period as Colin Smith scored a rebound goal and shortly after Brock Balson banged home another rebound to tie the game at 3-3. The Giants regained the lead scoring an odd goal. Goaltender Cole Cheveldave was without his catching glove, but play was not halted and the Giants capitalized making it 4-3. The Giants scored another goal four on four as Jordan Martinook streaked wide by the Blazers' defender and in to make it 5-3 Giants. The Blazers got one back though with Cole Ully banging home a rebound to make it 5-4 through two periods.
In the third period, the Giants squeezed a shot through Cheveldave to make it 6-4. Again, the Blazers tried to come back as Brendan Ranford scored a rebound goal to make it 6-5. The come back fell short as the Giants added one more goal and won the game 7-5. Goaltender Cole Cheveldave was not as his best making 24 saves, while Adam Morrison was solid in a 31 save effort for the Giants. The Giants finished 1-for-6 on the power play and the Blazers were 0-for-3.
The Blazers are back in action tomorrow night as they travel to Seattle to face the Thunderbirds.
