Week in Review:

Friday, September 25, 2009 vs. Kelowna Rockets

The Kamloops Blazers dropped the Kelowna Rockets 4-1 at home to improve to 3-0-0-0 on the season. The Blazers had a 2-0 lead with goals from Jimmy Bubnick and Tyler Shattock after two periods. Lucas Bloodoff scored midway through the third period to make the score 2-1, but Shattock with the insurance goal and Dylan Willick with his first WHL goal replied shortly after as the Blazers beat the Rockets for the first time since the 2007-08 season. The Blazers were solid on special teams finishing the night 2-for-8 on the powerplay while they were 8-for-8 on the penalty kill. Jon Groenheyde was strong in net as he stopped 36 of 37 shots, including all 18 shots he faced in the second period.

Saturday September 26, 2009 @ Kelowna Rockets

The Blazers came out flat, and were never in this one as Kelowna cruised to a 5-0 victory for their first W of the regular season. Jon Groenheyde was valiant in goal stopping 44 of 49 shots he faced. Goal scorers for the Rockets were Lucas Bloodoff, Cody Chikie, Brett Bulmer and Stepan Novotny with two. Adam Brown wasn’t tested much but stopped all 23 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season. The Blazers were 0-for-2 on the powerplay and 5-for-8 on the penalty kill. The hockey clubs record drops to 3-1-0-0.

Sydor Signs!

Blazers co-owner was rewarded with a 1-year contract from the St. Louis Blues following the pre-season. The 17-year NHL veteran joins his sixth NHL team, previously playing for the Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars, Columbus Bluejackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Edmonton native has played over 1200 NHL games and is 1 point shy of 500 in his career.

Pink Powerplay Night

The Blazers will be dressed all in pink this Friday night as they host the Vancouver Giants. The team will be sporting a specially designed Pink RBK Edge jersey and socks. The jerseys will be signed and auctioned off during the month of October with all the proceeds being raised for breast cancer. Bidding can be done by visiting blazerhockey.com or at any of the Blazer home games. The Blazer Corner Store will also be selling special pink merchandise, with 20% of the proceeds being donated to the cause.
